Architecture in the Hudson Valley

Although to some, Poughkeepsie and the Hudson Valley may not seem like the place for beautiful architecture, it has some hidden gems people may not realize are there. The first being the Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park. The Vanderbilt Mansion sits on 200 acres of property and is the state’s oldest national park. The mansion overlooks the Catskill Mountains and the Hudson River. It was built with large white columns that line the front of the mansion. The home is preserved as a national historic site owned by the government.

The second place is the Colonel Oliver Hazard Payne Estate in Hyde Park. The property is owned by the Marist brothers.  The Estate overlooks a lake in the back of the property and has a large winding driveway that leads up to the front entrance. There are large black gates that align the windows and doors of the Estate. The house is dedicated to communication, fashion, and philosophy department events.
